SYNOPSIS:
In 1996, Houshang Amir BAGHERI, representing Engineering Consortium of
Iran, on behalf of the Islamic Iranian Air Force attempted to purchase numerous
classified components and part for the F-14 military aircraft and other military
systems, including the hawk Missile system. BAGHERI and various co-conspirators
were indicted on numerous counts of violating the Arms Export Control Act and
Criminal Conspiracy.
BAGHERI is known to have formerly lived in the United States and also worked at the Iranian Embassy in Washington D. C., in the 1970's. He is know to travel throughout Europe and Canada and is believed to have other close contacts in the United States.
In 1996, the U.S. Customs Service initiated an undercover investigation code named "Operation Jet-Stream" which targeted BAGHERI and others within the Iranian military. Undercover agents negotiated with BAGHERI who arranged for the purchase and shipping of classified military components form the Untied States to Iran . BAGHERI remains a U.S. Customs Fugitive.
